Happy New Year Loves! I absolutely loved this In/Out trend we saw circulating in January. So of course I had to create my own Gut Health in/out list for 2024. This fun trend is an awesome way to decide what you’re allowing more and less of in your life in general. I think it could be a powerful journal exercise to break this up into different categories in your life. Categories like work, health, social and family are ones that proved really helpful for me personally. This is also a great time to have a little fun with your visualising for the year ahead.

If you’re not sure where to get started buzzfeed has a fun In/Out list generator for you to try here.
Here’s an example of a nutrition specific in/out list I found helpful from Conscious Katherine on Instagram.

A gut health in/out list is my gift to you for a simple and actionable starting point for 2024.
Quick-fix fad diets
Relying solely on probiotic supplements
Ignoring the connection between gut health and mental wellbeing
Overconsumption of highly processed plant-based alternatives
Ignorance about the impact of environmental factors on the gut microbiome
Strict dietary dogmas that don’t consider individual needs
Dismissing the importance of fermented foods
Neglecting the gut-brain axis in overall health strategies
Excessive antibiotic use without consideration for gut health
Lack of awareness about the connection between gut health and skin conditions.
Personalized nutrition tailored to individual microbiomes
Embracing a diverse range of plant-based whole foods
Prioritizing prebiotics and a variety of fiber sources
Understanding the connection between gut health and immunity
Incorporating fermented foods into daily diets
Holistic approach considering mental health and gut-brain axis
Sustainable and environmentally conscious food choices
Mindful eating practices and chewing food thoroughly
Regular physical activity to support gut motility
A balanced and varied approach to nourishing gut microbiota.
Take a breath and know that this list took me years of learning, trial, error and coaching to be able to come to. In 2025 I’m certain some elements would have been added and removed. What once used to be terrifying (managing my own health), is now natural to me thanks to my coaches. If now feels it’s your time to face that fear then me and my team at The Gut Health Agency are excited to hold your hand ever step of the way.
Perfection is OUT. These lists are not supposed to be strict all-or-nothing approaches. But rather a gentler nudge towards what you’d like to fill your one precious life with. Versus what you might want just a little less of this year. One of my favourite pieces of content to create last year was the very first piece of 2023 on finding your North Star and man is it still relevant this year – I hope you enjoy it. I can’t wait for another year of getting to create with and for you in our shared goal of happy gut health in 2024.
PS: I wanted to share some Ins and Outs that didn’t make the “Gut Health” list but that I know could benefit you in 2024:
Embracing my slightly unhinged side and sharing more of it
Belly laughs that make you cry
Pelvic floor health – in case the belly laughs make ya pee a little 😉
Doing more things that make me forget to check my phone
Understanding the bigger picture of gut and health overall
Mocktails
In person events
Non-toxic period underwear + period discs
Expectations, excuses, pressure
Sunburns
Over supplementing and under eating
Overthinking what I’m sharing/saying
Hangovers
Being afraid to pray in public
Getting confused about health because I know wtf my body needs so y’all can stfu
Cold supplement smoothies as meal replacements
Meat alternatives
Toxic tampons
Okay now I’m really done. Are there any you’d add or subtract from either of these lists? Reach out and let me know!
